UNBELIEVABLE!!! We are now in the Top Five, as of this post!!!!
But the heat is on, the other badges are aware of us and we have to keep asking, begging and trying to get everyone to donate ten dollars.
It has only been 6 days and look at how far we have gotten..
We need to be one of the top four to win the fifty thousand dollars.
We are very close, but still so far away..

I really hate to plead, but truly if you have ever thought about donating, now is the time to do it..
Just think, if you donate and we win, every time you read my blog, you can say to yourself...
It is because of me, because I took the time, to spread the word, to donate, that this shelter was built and that these animals were saved and are alive.

I can't do this alone, I need my friends and all animal lovers to take a part in helping me, help the animals that can't.
So please ask, your brother, sister, friends, family members or a perfect stranger you see with a pet:)
Most love animals and this is for them..
I've learned to swallow my pride and ask for help.. A very hard thing to do sometimes, but it is all for the greater good!!

It makes me sad that we have to compete for this money. All the charities that are trying to win are ALL very important.
No one of us, is any better than the next and I wish in a perfect world, we could all support the charities we love.

I really try not to write too much about all the bad things, that I see, that happen to the animals down here..
Most who read my blog, can't handle to hear about it, just know that they are awful!!! I have seen most first hand.
Gas chambers, puppy mills, shootings, starvation, abuse, you get the horrid picture:(

I try to focus on all great things we do, the fabulous dedicated rescue people I know and network with, the wonderful program we have started and continue to grow with the Anti Cruelty Society in Chicago, and over the past year, have qualified for other programs with Humane Societies elsewhere, that have successful spay and neuter programs.
Not to mention all the great private adoptions we do and the dogs that go to the pure bred rescues we network with!!

Speaking of private adoptions, I just got an e-mail that Lexi is on her dad, Ben's blog with pics of her.. Southern dog, playing in the snow!! Too cute:)
Ben and Jessica adopted Lexi and make cool Recycled Skateboard Furniture.

One of the many great things that could happen if we get the shelter is, we can apply to be in the Rescue Waggin program, sponsored by Pet Smart Charities, so that I wouldn't have to drive so much:)
They would come and pick up the animals from our place!!
Also, I have been dreaming of starting a program that would take in litters of puppies and offer the have the mom's fixed with no costs to the owners.
It just isn't fair to the critters that are born into the world, so we have to be proactive to help stop the needless killing...
All in the future, a dream that may not be too far away..
Hope leads us.. Belief gets us there..

I have become obsessive/compulsive, checking the badge every 5 minutes, as have Claudine and my friend Patsy, who is the donor from the "Zoline Foundation" also..
We are all very excited to have gotten this far and no matter what, will count our blessings, even if we don't win the money.
All we can do is, do our best!!

I talked with my friend Traci tonite and she is going to donate a piece of art, one signed book and her DVD Video to our drawing pot. YEAH!! I'm hoping we can do the drawing at CHA when we are all together via a you tube video, so you can be in on it:)

I know by the time this contest is over, you will get sick of hearing me say it, but I truly mean it!!

We took in two new ones today, a little female Beagle, from a cruelty case in our county (who wouldn't sit still for a pic) and a REALLY friendly Chocolate Lab/mix.
Here is his pic from the pound, I will try to post a new pic tomorrow, here at the house.

This sweet girl below came from the Rutherford County PAWS
and is doing GREAT!! She was unsocialized when she left the pound and just really terrified.
Judge for yourself, a picture says a thousand words!!

Still at my vet's office the Critter Clinic, getting over kennel cough. We have newborns here and didn't want to subject them to getting sick.
Everyone there has been working with her and she gave me this smile today...
Thank youPeggy and Mary Ruth for getting her to me!!! She is a doll!!

Let our light shine.. We have only 17 more days to make this miracle happen!!!

I was just going thru my e-mail and found "Take the Challenge. Change the World".

But.. I truly, truly, believe in my heart we can do this!!

Tomorrow I will be on the road taking "Chi-Chi" to her new family. My friend "Bella" is meeting me half way, in Chatanooga.
Will take pics Chi-Chi with her new kids, Zoe, Micah & Zane.

I still have to post about my fabulous kids that have been helping the rescued animals, amazing kids!!!
Got back from transporting last Saturday and have been working on the Art Auction. We also have some new faces...

Here are two of the three pups that we took in: Sherman, Lee & Grant are Lab/Hound mixes. All males, approximately 4-6 months of age. They are being treated for ear infections and Lee has mange. All being treated and on the mend.
Love people and full of puppy energy!!

This is one of the four puppies born on New Years day. I haven't named them yet, so if you have any ideas, there are 2 girls and 2 boys. Beagle/Boston Terrier mixes. We were at the vet's office having their dew claws done, when we took this picture.

"Sparky" is a very, very, sweet boy, and a bit shy!!! 5 years old and loves kids!!! He is a long hair Daschund. About 12 pounds.
We are having his teeth cleaned and he is being groomed. Will pick him up from the vet's office on Saturday.

If we are meant to build the shelter then things will work out like they should...

My Christmas Gift.. "NOEL"

This is a serious tissue warning..
This is an emotional post, but a very heartfelt and WILL be a very happy ending...
Please keep this in mind and read on..
This past week has been one of non stop, every minute of my days, has been filled with animals and emotions.
I have been to the pound many days this past week. They were filled to capacity, like I've never seen it before.
As I passed the kennels, looking into each animal's eyes, nothing could prepare my heart, for the little red dog I was about to see..
She meekishly looked at me, her tail thumping the ground and her eyes pleading for a home to love her..
I could not move, I lowered myself to my knees and started to sob..
((I've been crying for days))
She had no ears..
Scars of new and old, all over her body and she is just a baby..
In more pain than I could ever imagine, she still could wag her tail.
Well, she has become my Christmas Gift.
Her name is "Noel" and has become a lesson in love, a memory that will never be forgotten.

Our best guess, judging by the extent of her injuries is that she was used as a bait dog.
If you are not familiar with the term, it's a dog that is use to train other dogs to fight.
Whatever the case this poor baby has had a hard life of pain..
She has old injuries, months old all over her body that have healed and new ones, open and full of infection.
She spent the nite at the vet, her first nite and is home with me now.
We're giving her lots of love and she's being medicated with lots of antibiotics.
It will take her time to heal but she is more than willing to love everyone she comes in contact with!!!
Very afraid of other dogs, that may be something she may not get over, but only time will tell.
She Loves to go for car rides and is very well behaved in the car.
If anyone would like to make her a hat with ears, I'm sure it will help boost her self confidence.
I think she is beautiful with or without ears!!!

I'm learning many things as I travel this journey with the animals..
They teach me so much about life and unconditional love.
As much as I want to blame, point fingers, get angry at the world, I've learned it's all wasted energy.
I let it go and live in the moment.
Blame is so easy, forgiveness is hard..
What I've learned is. to focus my energies on what I can do..
How I can make the future of these animals better.
The stories read here on this blog, prove that we all can make a difference together, each one of us doing our part.
You who read, who care, who love are all a part of this journey and with the intention of love that we all share and send out to the world, change will happen.. I believe this with all my heart.
Not fast enough, but we cannot ever give up hope.. Someday, things will be different and the world will be a better place..

So with this thought, I send out to all of you,

Yes..
More new faces here!!
I couldn't get past the feelings that these guys needed a Christmas Miracle, a place to call home.
Such great dogs, I couldn't let them be put to sleep...
We are full to capacity, (what else is new:)
The great news is that, they will all be leaving for Humane Societies in Chicago and Wisconsin on January 4th.
So till then I will be going non stop day and nite caring for everyone.
If you are waiting on e-mail from me, please accept my apology for being tardy but these guys come first..

After the New Year I am going to try to take a break.
We are financially tapped and I'll need to work on our fund raising.
It's been a great year and we've saved almost 400 lives!!
So Thank you all again from the bottom of my heart:)

"Astro" is a male Husky/Briard mix. Approximately 1-2 years of age, he is very loving, energetic and gets along with other dogs. High energy and active, he does not like being alone and would do best in an active household!!

"Ellie" is a female, 4 year old Bassett Hound. Loving and sweet, she is looking for a home that would pamper & spoil her.
Loves kids and sleeping in bed with you...

"Bongo" is a male, chocolate lab, approximately 8 years old. He is sweet, loving and just looking for a place to call home the rest of his days.. He is housebroken and knows basic commands.

"Zoey" & 2 pups. She is a female, Australian Shepherd. Approximately 1-2 years of age.
Timid at first, but once warmed up she doesn't leave your side. Starved for affection, she is looking for that household that will give her lots of one on one loving!!
I haven't had a chance to take some nice pics of her, this one was taken at the pound.
She is out of there and here now with her two babies. I'll take some better pics in a day or so..

I wish I could slow my days down..
I'm a bit worried about the pups I brought in, they are so scared and don't seem quite right.
Very sleepy and not as rowdy as most puppies are.
I'm hoping a few days of good food, lots of love and medical treatment will be the remedy.
Loaded with lots of parasites.. Eeeww:( They've been dewormed and we'll keep deworming for a total of 3 days.
They had fleas so bad that they have big scabs from scratching so much.
We'll take good care of them and then when they are healthy, they will be going to the Humane Society in Chicago and be put up for adoption.

Here are more of our furry friends looking for a home this Holiday Season..

"Woofie's Lady" is a very special, cute, playful, stubborn chunk of a girl. She is the ultimate playmate for any dog.
Since she spent her formative years raising litter after litter, she has all the traits of a good mother, she is spirited, she is sweet, she is determined and she is playful. We have not found a dog that has not really liked Lady. She is a babysitter for little ones, a rambunctious roustabout with the rowdy crowd and a kindly sitter with the old and infirm. She can wear many hats, but she cannot live with cats. She is house trained, but should be crated when unsupervised and would probably be happiest in a home with another dog.

Jeffrey is an adorable long legged beagle hound mix. He is very, very sweet. He is affectionate and like most beagles, he loves food, so he should be easy to train. He is about 7 months old and should mature to about 40 lbs. Since he is a hound, he will probably be very laid back but prone to roaming, so he will have to go to a home with a fenced yard or an underground fence. If you are a roamer yourself, well, he would love to accompany you on any journey that you wish to make..

Kearrah is a female Labradoodle, approximately 8 months to 1 year of age. She is a bouncey, super busy, hyper dog with LOTS of energy. Loving and looking for a special someone to spend time with her and train her to be the best dog she can be.

Puppy Overload

I could just cry..
I went to the pound today to check on two little dogs that I was worried would be put to sleep.
They were both adopted:) That was the good news!!
As I looked around, there were 5 little pups I decided to take, and then 13 more came in..

Guess who came home with me??? These are them, all of them.. No Christmas break for me:)
I've already called all my humane society contacts and they have agreed to take them all in a few weeks.
How could they not, these little guys are so precious..
I truly am blessed that I have surrounded myself with organizations that believe in me and support my efforts.

All thirteen came from two moms that were farm dogs, the two moms and the dad also were brought in.
All surrendered. The parents I couldn't take, I'm over extended for space and am not too sure on their temperment.
They have killed some dogs, but most probably because they were protecting the pups.
Not their fault..
Every time I leave dogs behind a little something in me dies, I feel so sick inside..
It is so sad and again, because someone, didn't spay/neuter their animals life ends for many.
I've been busy, worming, vaccinating, defleaing and washing these little guys tonite..
I'll take some Happy pics of them tomorrow!!

Thoughts and New Faces..

So many new faces looking for homes.
It gets to me, especially over the holiday season...
I was at the pound the other day to see some dogs that I was called on.
As I passed the pens, there was one group that spoke to my heart and I couldn't sleep that nite.
They were scheduled to be put down the next morning.
I thought about them all nite and called first thing in the morning to keep them from being put down.
Here they are. The pictures are at the pound and then at my house.
I haven't thought of names yet, (suggestions are welcome!!)
the mom is the Brown one.
She isn't much older than a year and a half with some hard miles.
Her pups, the three with her are about 5 months old.
They are my Christmas gifts that I hope to share with some loving family.

Life is so precious and so taken for granted.
It gets to me almost every day that I look into the eyes of these animals. It is people that have failed them.
We are their care takers. If people don't fix their animals, properly train and care for them, they end up in places where they are put to sleep. The needless killing I pray will stop someday..
My heart cries every time I see a mothers with their puppies at the pound or the pregnant moms that I know with one injection many lives end at that very moment.
The old ones, the abused, I guess every single one that I pass, speak to and make eye contact will forever live on in my memory.
I continue on because of the successes, but truly sometimes it gets to me and eats me up, especially on days that I have to leave so many good dogs behind.
I am only one person and can only do so much, even though most times I'm extending myself, both physically, emotionally and financially. I don't mind ever.. I just wonder sometimes about how we can make change happen faster.
It feels like a sinking ship that you try to bail with a teaspoon.
There are so many of us doing rescue and yet it never seems as if we are enough..

I try to focus on the good..
Because of you my friends and animals lovers I have done more than I could have ever dreamed of!!
Thank You from the bottom of my heart.. It's because of you I succeed and that the animals live on:)

Here are some more of the sweet faces looking for homes!!
This is "Frankie" a male Daschund who needs to go to a seasoned Doxie home.
No children and someone that will help bring him out of his shy self.

This is sweet and handsome "Morris" Approximately a 6 months old, male and going to be a nice, fluffy big guy.
We're guessing Great Pyrenees/Australian Shepherd mix.

And of course our darling "Ruby" approximately 2 years of age, female and loves kids.
She will need a little training, she likes to jump up, but is very loving!!

This is a new little guy who came in. Unsocialized, living on a farm, he is scared of everything. We're guessing he is a Catahoula/mix. Male and about 10-12 weeks of age. He will be a big guy when he grows up. It will take some time but we're sure with some much needed exposure to people and other dog, he'll be fine!!

Finally back to Tennessee...

I can't believe two weeks has gone by..
The transport went well. We arrived safe and sound and all the dogs were adopted!!!
Mr. Magoo (Mugsy) went to my friend Jill who has a Ten year old pug. It was the cutest meeting I've ever seen. They looked at each other and seemed to say.. Hey!! You're a pug!!! So am I!!
I have received reports they are doing GREAT and Mr. Magoo has new winter clothes and a new Christmas outfit.

Not only was it a road trip but it was a trip down memory lane..
A year in retrospection. My thoughts of all the animals that have come thru our doors and touched our lives...
348 dogs and about 60+ cats. More than I ever thought we could do.
It's been exhausting but also rewarding.
Many of our adopters keep in touch with us, especially during the Christmas season, when the cards, notes and updates come.
Here are a few to share that will make you smile:)
This is Foxy and Bosco. They were adopted both from us about a year apart. Their mom and dad spoil them rotten but they so deserve it. Bosco was found stray in Milwaukee, emaciated,matted to the skin and was an older dog. Foxy came out of a puppy mill/hoarding situation 60+ dogs in a house, none housebroken, ick.. You can only imagine.
They look fabulous now.. A true rags to riches story...

My next story is about an outstanding child who is wise beyond her years and could teach a few adults lessons in love..
If you go back in my blog archives you'll see a story about "Pinky" a little Chihuahua/mix who was left in a yard with 3 other dogs for a month with no food or water. The neighbors were giving them a little here and there, before animal control came to get them. All four ended up here and we were waiting for them to gain some weight before we had them fixed and the two females had puppies. Pinky was very codependent, looking for any little bit of love she could get from anyone. She had six healthy pups. Her puppies are now ready for adoption. The little girl's name in this story is Mykayla. She is 5. Her and her mom volunteer time at their local shelter. The family was looking for a puppy of their own this Christmas. They came to look at the pups we had. Pinky was shown first and then she went to look at the puppies. Their were 12 different ones, from different litters that we had. She played with them and then looked at her mom and asked to see Pinky again. Pinky crawled up in her lap and just nuzzled her neck as if this was her person.
Well.. It was!! Mykayla looked at her mom and said momma..
I want the momma, the pups will find homes but this mom may not.
I applaud the parents for teaching her to love and respect the animals at such a young age.
Her mom keeps asking her what she would like for Christmas.. and she just wants some treats and clothes for Pinky:)
No toys or anything else for herself. Angels do walk among us, even as children..

We've almost completed our last transport for the year..
It's been a very busy, busy year and our total dogs transported and adopted to date for this year is 348.
I'm currently in Chicago visiting my family and staying with my close friends Monica & George Ceffalio.
George is a fabulous painter and neon sign artist!!

He has also donated a watercolor piece to our auction titled "Mystery Man" that we will be putting up as soon as I get back. The picture looks a bit different in person, but just to give you an idea till I can re-photograph when I get home.

They recently adopted a little pup from me a few months ago, if you look at the archives you'll see him. His name is "Reilly".
He has grown so much in just a few months, 6 pounds to his current 20.
It makes my heart smile to see him happy, healthy and so loved!!

Off to Wisconsin tomorrow with the remaining dogs..

Days are flying by, with too much to do and not enough time to do them..
I'm getting ready to take another 20+ dogs on the road to the Humane Society on Thursday of the upcoming week.
They are healthy and ready to be adopted & deserving of forever homes.
I've been working day and nite these days with the larger number of animals that have been coming in and have been working together with "Friends of Hannah", since we work so well together. It's just too much for one person to do.
If there is anything I have learned from the animals is the strength of spirit & forgiveness.
Those that end up here, mostly have been abused & neglected, but still have strength to love, even when other human beings have been mean and cruel.
In their last moments of life, I see true strength, to give one last kiss or snuggle deep into the fur of another littermate.
Forgiveness of the past & only focusing on the present, be it pats on the head, kiss on their faces or a bowl of food or water.. This kind of love should be our focus for the future of the animals. It should not go unrewarded. Little by little, one animals at a time, one by one, we can make a difference. The animals depend on us and truly are gifts given by our creator.
There are many, many sad stories that we should not turn a blind eye to or forget. Life is a journey and a story.. Each one having a very personal one to tell. Sometimes it is not easy to hear or see, but needs to be told and remembered so that we can help to make a difference and a hope for tomorrow that this may all come to an end.
The topic today was brought about by some of the new dogs that have come in..
These are their stories..

"Lucky" as we'll call him for now..
(We're looking for the perfect name for him, so please feel free to leave suggestions.)

Was running around on the side of the highway, electrical cord hanging from his neck, starved and looking for food, he got his head caught in a chicken bucket. He couldn't see where he was going and ended up in the middle of the road with highspeed traffic and no one slowing down or stopping. Ashley my vet's tech, stopped and almost got herself killed trying to save him. She could not get people to slow down and all she could do was watch Lucky get hit time after time until she could get him.

He is doing well and is currently at my vets office, getting lots of love, till he is healthy enough to come here. He is approximately 1-3 years of age. Will be around 50+ pounds when fully recovered. Sweet & shy personality, but in the right home will blossom!!

"Vanilla" is a 10 year old Maltepoo. Surrendered by his owner, due to having to go into a nursing home.
Housebroken and needing a lap to sit on.

"Possum & Barry" 12 week old Collie/lab mixes.

"Jessie" Australian Shepherd/mix 10 weeks old

"Sy" A Yorkie/mix. Male, approximately 3-5 years of age.

"Bucky" A Scottie/poo, who really needs a friend. Always pawing at you to get attention. Very active and always running around to seach for critters in the yard. He need a tumor removed from his mouth & a bit of a diet.
Approximately 7-9 years of age.

I got back from my last transport to Chicago last Wednesday. This was our biggest transport so far.
I haven't had a chance to write, things have been busy as usual.
This was my first trip with a cargo van and it worked out pretty well.

I received word today, from the shelter manager that all of our dogs have been adopted. I wish that I could know where each and every one goes, but that is just not possible. I just hope they end up in the best lives possible...
I kiss each and everyone of the dogs that leaves me and say a prayer. I've done what I can and all I can do is hope for the best and leave it to the God and the universe to care for them.

I'm currently working on our next transport. I'm full again:( It just is a never ending battle with the homeless animals.
I hope in my lifetime that we see change and the end to the needless killing of adoptable animals. We all can have a hand in this. Not saying that we need to do things to the extreme that I do, but to find out what is going on where you live locally.
Working with Humane Societies and rescues. We all together can make a difference. The capacity to help is different for everyone, but every little bit of involvement does help.

News at the Zoo:
Mr. Magoo is healing well. He is still a bit itchy but goes for his second treatment this Friday. His hair is starting to grow back!! I can't wait to see how he looks with a new coat. I'm thinking I should change his name..

This is "Miss Prissy" I didn't name her, but think she should have a new name, any suggestions??

Two Terrier/Poodle pups and their mom came in.

We have three of these puppies

And "Elliot" who is just the best dog!! I think he is a Boxer, possibly Bulldog mix, we have to do some testing with the vet, as I think he may be deaf.
Sooo sweet and very attentive, just the best if you are looking for a bigger dog.

There is more, but I have to get moving, lots to do...

I had to go to animal control to pull a Great Pyrenees for my friend.
We are so full and I'm getting ready for transport and was trying to stay true to only getting the one dog I was sent to get...
I guess my heart doesn't listen to my head:)
There he was..
Mister Magoo

Scared, itchy and nervous..
Poor little guy was so uncomfortable, covered in mange.
His whole body was full of scabs and quite a bit of hair loss.
Even though he doesn't feel good, he is just a sweet, sweet, boy!!!

I took him straight to the vet and to our surprise he is very young.
He has had his mange treatment, antibiotics for the infections, vaccinations and some benadryl for the itchies.
It will be a few months, but he will be a new dog by then. For the moment, he is quarantined in my laundry room.
Not the greatest, but it's roomy and he has a french door to look out of, into the backyard.
I have to keep him away from my dogs for a few weeks.
He had a series of 3 soaking baths, to help ease his skin issues.
A very good bath taker, I must say!!

Last nite we were doing health certificates till almost midnight with my vet..
I'm pooped, but hey!! I'll have plenty of time to sleep when I'm old:)

A Gift from Mister Binky

The past few weeks have been enlightening and emotional..
In good ways:)
I just had my 40+ birthday and it's a funny thing.
Never did I think I would be this old. We just don't think, we'll get old, when we're young.
Age has taught me many things and the most important thing is to be grateful for every moment of life & never to hold a grudge. Though life has it's challenges, it is all we have, the here and now.
I had the most unexpected of gift this birthday...
Always I wonder, to whom my dogs are adopted to..
Since I work with the Humane Societies, I don't know each and every adopter.
I use to only do private adoptions, this way I knew where each and every dog went, not to mention getting updates from the adopters always made me cry in a happy way.
Now, all I can do is hope that they get into great homes.
It's always been my dream to be walking down the street and see one of my dogs.
Both of us recognizing each other at that very moment.
With the numbers I deal with, the Humane Societies are their best chance at life.
They have a much wider view audience and the facilities to showcase them.
It took me a long time to be able to give my dogs to the Humane Societies.
We have very close working relationships and if there is ever a problem, they let me know and will give my dogs back.
It's such a leap of faith releasing control and letting someone else care for my dogs..
Very hard and emotional at times.
Anyway, I guess I should finish my story..

The last shipment, I sent to Chicago, contained Mr. Binky.
If you remember when I took him in, he was covered in fleas, matted and felted like an old blanket, living on a chain, no food or shelter, etc.
I received an e-mail from a nice lady who tracked me down, after adopting him and wanted to know about where he came from.
To make a long story short, he is LOVED, pampered and living in a Turn of the Century Mansion in Chicago:)
The Binkyrella story, from rags to riches.
I cried for days after talking with her.. That was the BEST birthday gift I could have asked for.
Not to mention, she also extended an invitation to come visit him when I was in town.
Stories like these keep me going and doing what I do.
And it's because of my animal friends and artists that I can do these things.
Without the constant support, Mr. Binky wouldn't be living the life he is now.
So again, Thank You to all who read, view, support and love animals!!!

I'm busy getting another transport ready to leave on Saturday, we have 26 dogs going to Chicago and Wisconsin, so I'll try to post when I can..

This is the official call for art for A Place To Bark's Artists Unleashed Auction.
An Artful Fusion of Hearts & Hands working together to benefit animals in need.
This auction will benefit A Place To Bark Animal Rescue.
The numbers of animals I take in every year continues to grow and so, a shelter & funding is needed to help foster the animals and keep our rescue alive. We have 20 acres here and plenty of room to build.
Since moving to Tennessee in December of 2005, we have taken in, fostered, transported and found new homes for over 100 animals. We will continue doing as much as we can, but cannot do it alone.
Our euthanasia rate in the area I live, is 95 to 98 percent. Animals being put to sleep every 3 to 5 days.
Lives needlessly wasted.
By coming together and sharing our gifts of art, you will help animals in need and save lives.
Together we can do great things!!!
Artwork does not have to be professional, we ask all levels of artistic talent donate, kids too!!!

Getting Better Everyday..

Jeff News: Jeff is getting better!!!
I'm sure so much has to do with all the well wishes, thoughts and prayers sent his way...
Again, Thank you All!!!
The bleeding in his head has stopped, but he is still a long way from full recovery, but is almost ready for them to start working on his heart issues. We're just waiting for them to schedule his surgery, 2-4 weeks more.
Positive thoughts and Hope for tomorrow is what I hang on too...

I have been blessed to have the support of the Zoline Foundation.
We have been talking in depth about future plans and I would like to ask you all a question.
If a Rescue Ranch were built..
It would be a place of beauty and art on a big scale.
A place of refuge & sanctuary for the animals..
We would have art weekends and various retreats..
Such as: Art, Women's weekends and possibly mind, body, spirit, meditation/yoga weekends, something for everyone..
Also thinking about having some rescued horses..
Many acres, in a beautiful place..
Not sure where at this point, my friend is trying to convince me to come to Oregon, but it could be Tennessee or someplace else..

Would you come?? I would Love to hear your thoughts..
The art retreats and weekends would help support our efforts for the animals and this way I would be able to hire help and continue with my love of art:)
Sometimes dreams can come true if you believe..

I'm have just finished up my chores with the animals..
It's 12:26 a.m.
Long eventful day...
Jeff is not doing so well. He says every part of his body is in pain. He is losing strength on the right side of his body.
Walking is all he can do and he can't do much. He is very unstable on his feet. I can see a defeated look in his eyes, even though I tell him that this will pass. The 6 weeks before his surgery is going to feel like 6 years and I worry for him.
I'm grateful for the animals that keep him company, they seem to bring him great comfort.
I wish there were more I could do for him, but all I can do is be here....

Today I had to run into town. My neighbor came and sat with Jeff while I was gone..
I picked up Mr. Binky. He was confiscated due to abuse. He reminded me of an old blanket I had as a child.
Fuzzy and really worn...
Very young, he has hard miles on him. This little guy has lived on a chain all his life.
Never been groomed, he was a matted mess and starved for love.
As you can see in the pictures, it's amazing what just a few hours & a hair cut can do..

Every day is a Blessing..

I'm sorry I haven't posted, it's just been a whirlwind of emotions and non stop movement.
Jeff is home. It scares me a bit, since we are so far from the hospital.
The insurance companies give the hospitals such a hard time and people are sent home before they are recovered, it's really sad...
The bleeding in his brain, is slowing, which is very good.
Basically they said there is nothing else they can do unless it gets worse.
So I have to be on watch and get him back if there is any change in his behavior.
It is up to his body to heal itself before they can repair or know how much damage was done to the heart.
He has lost significant strength on his right side.
He needs to take it easy for the next 6 weeks at which time they are hoping to go in and do surgery.
Sleeping a lot and going for short walks is about all he can do.
Time heals all and life will be as it is suppose to be... or at least that is what I'm told:)
He celebrated his 54th birthday the other day for which we are both grateful for.

I'm sad that I'm not going to be able to teach in Arizona at Art Unraveled, but family must come first.
I'll miss the event, student and friends..

John Whipple will be helping me out and teaching in my place.

I have some bad news..
My husband suffered a massive heart attack last week.
I've been running like mad, and needed to check in here and let you all know..
He is doing as well as can be expected but they can't do anything for his heart for the next month until the bleeding in his head is healed.

I've been posting to my blog spot more lately for it is so much easier to upload pictures.

I'll be leaving for Chicago tomorrow morning about three a.m.
These road trips are tiring, but they also give me time to think..

I've had quite a few questions e-mailed to me lately about how to get started in rescue and what the start up costs are.
When I get back next week, I'll post about the pros and cons of running your own rescue and also information about what is involved financially.

Just to give you an idea of what it costs to just do one transport:
This trip I'm taking 12 dogs and one cat. For the health certificates, shots and exams it cost me $182.00, my gas will be about $200.00. Not to mention the prior costs of feeding them & the veterinary care that is needed when they first come in, depending what is wrong with them.
All animals that I take in have at least 2 rounds of shots, Bordatella & Parvo/Distemper & have been dewormed several times.
The Humane Societies don't give me any money for the dogs. They invest their time and money, in getting them fixed, feeding, training, testing and housing them.
They have the ability to place these animals in loving homes faster than I would be able to & reach a much wider audience.
We all work with limited funds and do the best we can for the animals.
By each doing our part, the collaboration helps all animals involved.
So please support your local humane societies in any way you can, when you can:)

I've had three calls today about litters of puppies people wanted to surrender that I can't take in because I'm leaving..
They will probably dump them or bring them to animal control. I'm not sure what is worse..
I went to animal control yesterday and left in tears.
So many good animals..

While on the road I'll have some time to formulate a plan to somehow take some time to recharge..
I'm not sure if I can really take some time off. It truly makes me sad, when there is such a simple solution to the numbers.
Getting animals fixed is the only way to end the needless waste of life..
